What is Reiki

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a system of energy healing that works with the meridians and chakras — the healing centers, channels, and energetic grids in and around the body. It supports the movement and transmutation of energy, offering relief from physical, emotional, and mental distress. Many people around the world have experienced the benefits of long-term Reiki practice, especially when it is incorporated into their ongoing care and spiritual lives.

While this lineage is called Reiki, there are many energy-healing modalities that work with similar systems and techniques. Each session is tailored to the individual, and the work tends to deepen when supported by a spiritual or reflective practice of one’s own.

Usui Shiki Ryōhō is the Reiki lineage most commonly practiced today. It originated in Japan with Dr. Mikao Usui and was later brought to the West by Hawayo Takata in Hawaiʻi. Both are recognized as early master teachers within this lineage. There is speculation about the origins of the Reiki symbols — some say they were channeled by Dr. Usui during an extended period of meditation in sacred caves. Others point to historical misrepresentation and note that energy practices of this nature are far older, and not limited to the formal structure or rules of Reiki as it is often taught today.

Over time, Reiki has evolved through many interpretations and additions. More recently, practitioners with Japanese spiritual lineages have spoken out about the harms of cultural erasure, misuse, and commercialization within modern energy-healing spaces. We encourage thoughtful engagement: do your research, ask questions, and approach this work with respect and care.!

Shakti Healing:

Shakti healing is channeled from my spiritual inheritance of Shaktism. Shaktism is a practice of Goddess worship with comes from Dravidian lineages of Amman practices. These sessions and teachings may arise in the space when Kali Maa chooses it.

What to expect

(Read to the end for mention of Shakti Healing)

In a typical session we talk about what brought you into the space (virtual sessions for distance reiki also available). After talking and exploring you would ideally be sitting or laying with eyes closed and in a resting state brought on by a gentle introductory meditation. After sounds, mantras, chanting, singing, gentle touch, applied pressure, prayer and silence may all be incorporated into your healing session.

Each session is tailored to a person’s specific needs. Messages and visions may arrive for people. At the end we wrap up with a check in and a session plan. Some people are fine with one session, but depending on how we are utilizing the practice - I will generally recommend up to 4 sessions to see deeper results.

Reiki can be directed towards healing illnesses, or self esteem issues, addictions, eating disorders and much more. It is a system based on EASTERN medicine and therefore cannot be “compared” to western medicine, it is a completely different system of care. Please learn as much as you can about Reiki, ask questions and find out of this is the right avenue for you.

For some sessions my Shaktism lineage of Shakti healing integrates with Reiki for a Shakti healing sessions. This can be communicated about more indepth for anyone who resonates. If you are a Shakta or may experience a connection the Amman deities such as Kali, reach out to book via email.
